External Camera FAQs

You can now stream events in GameChanger using an external camera. Here are some commonly asked questions and best practices for using your external camera.

• Which external cameras does GameChanger support?

  GameChanger allows you to stream with Mevo, GoPro, and other camera models that support RTMPS. Follow these detailed instructions to get started.

• My external camera does not support RTMPS, can I still use it with GameChanger?
  Yes, GameChanger now allows insecure ingest from devices that can only stream with RTMP.  Please see our Live Stream From An External Camera (Insecure) support article for more information.

• From where do I start and stop streams if I use an external camera?

  If you're using an external camera to stream on GameChanger, you must start and stop the recording from the external camera's app. Detailed instructions can be found here.

• Can I use one device to score and stream if I'm using an external camera?

  You can score on the same streaming device depending on a few factors. Mevo has a detailed support article that outlines when you are able to do this. Please note that if you're on an iOS device and using the Mevo hotspot to connect to the internet you'll have to keep the Mevo app foregrounded at all times to maintain the connection. This means you won't be able to score on GameChanger and maintain your stream using just one device.

• Will the scoreboard overlay show up for fans if I stream through my external camera?

  Yes, the scoreboard will show up for the live-stream viewers if the game is being scored.

• What type of connection should I use for my external camera

  We recommend that you connect your external camera to the internet via a stable WiFi connection or a dedicated mobile hotspot.

• Can I stream in different resolutions with an external camera?

  Yes, most external cameras offer the ability to stream in a range of resolutions. Please note that streaming at higher resolutions will impact the stability of your stream. If you experience slowness or drops in connection, we recommend dropping down your resolution. 

• Can I save the video to my external camera while streaming to GameChanger?

  Yes, if you have an SD card you can stream to GameChanger and save to your external camera at the same time.

• Can I set audience controls when streaming with an external camera?

  Yes, for games you can choose who gets to view the stream when setting up the external camera from within GameChanger. You can choose 'Anyone' or 'Players and Family.'

• Can I mute my stream with an external camera?

  You can mute the stream with a Mevo camera, but not with GoPro. GoPro recommends plugging in a mic adaptor but not connecting a mic.

• Can I zoom in on the screen if I use an external camera?

  Mevo cameras allow you to zoom, but GoPro cameras do not.

• Is there a direct integration with Mevo or GoPro?

  GameChanger has an integration with Mevo that allows you to tap one button to connect to your Mevo Camera and start streaming. You do not have to copy and paste the stream url and key.

   

• Can I stream to multiple destinations with Mevo?

  You will need a Mevo Plus Subscription to stream to multiple destinations. Please refer to these instructions from Mevo for more details.
