New to video streaming on GameChanger? Not sure how you should be holding your phone, or wondering if you need some extra equipment? We've got you covered. Here are some FAQs and hardware recommendations to help you create the best possible video streaming experience for your team.
General Tips
How should I hold my device while streaming video?
If you're holding your device in your hands, make sure to keep it in landscape mode while streaming. This will ensure that your viewers get a wider angle of the action.
Will streaming video drain my phone's battery?
You should expect streaming video to drain your phone's battery at a faster rate than using the other parts of the app. Please plan accordingly.
Should I use WiFi or cellular?
We recommend that you are connected to the internet via a stable WiFi connection. You can also use cellular data to stream, but please note that this may consume multiple GB of data. To avoid this, you may want to consider using a mobile hotspot.
What can I do if my stream is choppy or if it drops?
If you’re having trouble with streams you can try adjusting the stream quality setting in the GC app.
If you're using an external camera to stream you can also adjust stream quality settings in those apps. Instructions for Mevo are here and instructions for GoPro are here.
You can also get alerts if your stream does drop. Just go to ‘Team Settings’ -> ‘Game Alerts’ -> and enable the ‘Live Stream End’ toggle.
Will my viewers be able to hear me speaking?
Audio will get picked up by your device's microphone. You may need to go through some trial and error by speaking at varying volumes while streaming to find the right fit with your specific device with your viewers.
What if I get a call/text while streaming?
Answering a call or text message while streaming may interrupt the stream. To avoid this, we recommend putting your phone into Do Not Disturb mode while streaming. We have a Using "Do Not Disturb" While Streaming Video article to help you get set up.
Can I stream with external cameras?
Yes, you can use external cameras like Mevo and GoPro to stream events in GameChanger. Please review the instructions here.
